Visa and Passport

Visa regime is not applied for most visitors entering Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, please make sure you check online information on the official web site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in your country or the nearest one to your country.

If you want to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, you should consult Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in your country of origin. In case there is no Embassy in your country of origin, then you should consider consulting the closest Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina to your country of origin in order to better understand the procedures that apply to you for entering Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Countries that can enter Bosnia and Herzegovina without a visa

The exemption from the visa requirement applies to the citizens of the following countries:

Albania*, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro*, Czech Republic, Chile, Denmark, Dominica, Estonia, Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, East Timor, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Holy See*, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kiribati, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein*, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Monaco*, Nicaragua, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Oman, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Salvador, Samoa, San Marino*, Serbia*, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Spain, Sweden, Swiss Confederation*, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Tuvalu, United Kingdom Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Uruguay, Vanuatu and Venezuela.

*Citizens of EU and Schengen Zone Member States and countries marked with * are allowed to enter, transit, and stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 90 days within any 180-day period which entails considering the 180-day period preceding each day of stay with a valid biometric identification card.

Special Categories Exempted from Visa Requirements

The exemption from the visa requirement applies also to the following categories:

Citizens of Azarbaijan, Brazil, Israel, Malasya, who are holders of valid ordinary passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days within a period of six months from the date of first entry.

Citizens of Algeria, Cuba, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Moldova, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia who are holders of diplomatic and service passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Citizens of Kazakhstan who are holders of diplomatic and service passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 30 days and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Citizens of the People’s Republic of China who are holders of diplomatic, service and business-ordinary passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Taiwan passport holders, as well as holders of passports issued by the Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China (Hong Kong and Macao) are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days within a period of six months from the date of first entry only if the passport contains the ID card number.

Citizens of the Russian Federation who are holders of ordinary passports, Seaman’s book (to be in possession of a certificate of vessel documentation) and identification document (travel document) for their return to the Russian Federation are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a period of stay not exceeding 30 days within every 60 days period from the date of first entry and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Citizens of the Russian Federation who are holders of diplomatic and service passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Citizens of Ukraine who are holders of valid ordinary passports, child travel document, Seaman’s books and identification document for their return to Ukraine are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a period of stay not exceeding 30 days within the two months from the date of first entry and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Citizens of Ukraine who are holders of diplomatic and service passports are exempted from the obligation to obtain a visa for entry, exit, and transit and stay on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina up to 90 days and in compliance with concluded international agreement.

Holders of Laissez-Passer, regardless of their nationality, issued by United Nations Organizations, NATO, are also exempt from the visa requirement.

Particular procedures: 

Holders of travel documents with a label “Republic of Kosovo” are obliged to obtain a visa that is not placed in a travel document but issued on a separate form under the special procedures.
